Tom Hanks

Hanks' next role - the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - brought him back together with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics as well as the performances by the entire cast that included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The film was nominated for nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks later played Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). A year later, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The story follows the fall and the rise of a rock band. Hanks also performs the role of a music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and the majority of reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanksperformance earned him a spot among the best romantic-comedy actors of the time.
